Indro Montanelli | Milan | Italy
On March 8, 2019, during a
procession for women rights somebody spill a can of pink paint on the
statue of Indro Montanelli inside the gardens of Porta Venezia. The
collective 'Non una di meno' explained this gesture as "a
necessary redemption action". On their facebook page we could
read "These are the words of Indro Montanelli about his colonial
experience: 'She was twelve ... at twelve years those Africans were
already women. I had bought it from the father in Saganeiti together
with a horse and a rifle, all at 500 lire. It was a docile animal, I
put it on a tucul (simple circular building with conical roof usually
made of clay and straw) with chickens. And every fifteen days she
would reach me wherever I was together with the wives of the other
ascari ... this was also my wife, with the basket on her head, who
brought me clean linen (interview released to Enzo Biagi for Rai in
1982) ". "Are these - concludes the collective - the men we
should admire?".
