Baltasar Fernandes, a bandeirante – men who worked
in the capture and enslavement of indigenous people. They killed many
communities for their territories, raped and enslaved indigenous
women and explored Brazil interior mines in search for precious
stones and metals - is known as the founder of Sorocaba. He captured
and imprisoned Indians in Rio Grande do Sul and Paraguay to work in
the fields as slaves. He had over 400 indigenous people at his
service.
