Monumento às Bandeiras (Monument to the Bandeirantes) | São Paulo | Brazil
The monument to the
Bandeirantes is a work in honor of the Bandeirantes slave traders; the
work portrays Portuguese, blacks, Mamelukes, and Indians. The
sculpture has been target of graffiti in the form of a manifesto
several times as it commemorates the colonizers who made expeditions
in search of the Brazilian wealth and enslaved Indians in the
interior of the country. The monument is located in Ibirapuera Park,
the most visited in São Paulo. The sculptor Victor Brecheret's work
is made of granite blocks and is 50 meters long and 16 meters high.
