On a granite pedestal, the equestrian sculpture of Duque de Caxias, made of patinated bronze, measures 48 meters in height. The statue pays homage to Duque de Caxias, imperialist and slave-maker, responsible for the 10,000 killed in Balaiada, the Porongos Massacre. The statue is located in Praça Princesa Isabel, on the corner of Duque de Caxias and Rio Branco avenues, in the central region.
