revolutionary of Polish origin, nicknamed the "Red executioner."
Together with the leaders of the Soviet Union, Dzerzhinsky
participated in the development and implementation of punitive
measures for political reasons in relation to individuals, as well as
a group of individuals. Punishment included mass executions and
detention in concentration camps. Dzherzhinsky was the head of the
punitive institution - in fact a key figure in the conduct of the Red
Terror.

In 2017 the students
from Moscow Higher school of Economics started a campaign for the
removal of the school campus monument of Felix Dzerzhinsky. According to RT news agency the students wrote a
letter in which Dzerzhinsky is described as “a founder of the
Soviet system of state terror.” They refer to his monument on the
school campus as a “justification of terrorism” that “casts a
slur on the school’s reputation.”
